Interventionist, Bill Maher, is a highly successful and innovative Interventionist specializing in the Gentle, Respectful, Invitational Model™, which addresses the effects of addiction on the whole family. Since 1989, Bill has provided intervention services, facilitating over 2,000 interventions nationally with a very high success rate for placing the addicted individual into treatment. Maher brings personal experience to his work — he has been in recovery from alcoholism and drug addiction for more than 25 years and is also a recovering food addict. A resident of Richmond, Virginia, Maher has close ties to the local recovering community. As president of the Family Intervention Center of Virginia, he provides intervention services to families in need from all over the country, but especially in the Mid-Atlantic Region, including Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina and West Virginia.

Maher is a nationally-recognized expert in the field of intervention for chemical dependency. He is a preferred interventionist for a number of the country’s top treatment centers, including the Betty Ford Center. A sought after speaker and trainer in the field of intervention, he has also appeared on Good Morning America, The Wall Street Journal and WVTF Public Radio on the topic of substance abuse intervention.

Bill has pioneered the process of co-facilitating interventions and has had the honor of co-facilitating with some of the leading doctors in the field of addiction today. Trained in a number of intervention methods, he has successfully conducted interventions on other addictions and process disorders including food and sex addictions as well as major depression and bipolar personality disorder. Maher specializes in the Family Invitational Model of Intervention.

Maher is a member of the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC) and is a former Vice-President of the Association of Intervention Specialists (AIS).

He served with distinction and was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps.
